Emily Obergoenner
Meet Emily Obergoenner
“Participating last year brought out the competitive juices within the family, while raising money for a great cause. We loved that our kids got to participate and they can’t wait for this year”. Those are the words of someone who plans to show up on the 11th and take home a 1st place trophy! We are not surprised that Emily’s motto for her daughter is “Girls are strong, girls are smart, girls are brave”. Work hard and be nice to people – pretty easy!
Beyond her official title as Queen of the Golf Course, Emily loves to spend time outside with her family, shoot hoops in the driveway, or hike with their dog. She’s often on the road to support her kids’ sports and activities, but when you love traveling and visiting friends that’s just called doubling down on the fun.
Emily brings wisdom to this year’s LemonDrop. “As with everyone, cancer has touched so many people I am close to. With each of these occurrences, it definitely reinforces that life is a gift and don’t waste it. Watching my mom serve as an oncology nurse, I heard of the daily battles individuals face during treatment, both mentally and physically. I was interested in Lemon Drop for a variety of reasons. The game of golf has given me SO much in life – meeting my husband, close friends from my college team, and development of personal traits like resilience, respect, and the importance of hard work. If I can give back to others during their cancer journey, through a game that has given me so much, I feel like it is a perfect fit.” We couldn’t have said it better!
Outside of the golf course, Emily is a speech-language pathologist and teaches undergraduate and graduate students at SEMO as a faculty member. They have an on-campus clinic where she helps provide treatment services for children and adults in the Southeast Missouri area.
We know she’s a diehard Kentucky fan who bleeds blue, but on the 11th we are beyond excited to have her crush the LemonDrop and bleed yellow and purple with us!
